Pine fresh.
Welcome to our round-up of the Star Trek episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. All viewing figures quoted are for U.S. premiere broadcast (unless noted).
August 26th
Born August 26th 1980, Christopher Whitelaw Pine made his feature film debut back in 2004 as Lord Devereaux in The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Other well-known roles include Cinderella's Prince in Into the Woods (2014), Jack Ryan in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014), and Steve Trevor in Wonder Woman (2017) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020).
But of course, Pine also had the perhaps unenviable task of stepping into William Shatner's shoes as James T. Kirk in the 2009 reboot of Star Trek, reprising the role for its sequels Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. In 2011, Pine sat down with the actor who originated the role of Captain Kirk more than forty years earlier for the feature length documentary The Captains, which Shatner wrote and directed. The film sees Shatner interview Pine about his career and how it felt to take the role of Kirk, and also included a scene where the pair arm wrestle!
Winner keeps the keys to the Enterprise.
Join us again next time for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the movie's released, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Star Trek history.
