Shrek was a brilliant film, it gave 'kids' animation a shot in the arm and helped redefine the genre. It made Eddie Murphy funny again, I still sit and watch it now every time my kids put it on. Shrek 2 was also enjoyable, it had some laughs and was worth the price of admission. Shrek 3 & 4, hmmm not so much!
I don't believe I'm alone there, I'm sure you agree they were hard to like.
So this news comes as a big surprise. I honestly believed that they'd said goodbye to making Shrek movies but apparently not. DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has hinted that a fifth installment is being planned.
“We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest,” he told Fox Business Network in an interview scheduled to air Tuesday. “But I think you can be confident that we’ll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We’re not finished, and more importantly, neither is he.”Well I can't say I'm excited by the news, but if it can re-capture the magic of the first two movies then it'll be worth the wait. Besides, I guess Mike Myers gotta eat?
This news comes on the back of the announcement that DreamWorks Animation is teaming up with Merlin Entertainments to launch a Shrek themed visitor attraction, to be called Shrek’s Far Far Away Adventure, in London. Opening this Summer, it will take visitors through a live interactive adventure featuring Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Puss in Boots and other characters from the franchise. Six more of these attractions are to be rolled out over nine years, all across the globe.
