Forgive me whilst I squeal like a schoolgirl!
It's been 10 years since we said goodbye to John Crichton (Ben Browder), Aeryn Sun (Claudia Black) and their new baby, D’Argo, when Farscape wrapped up production with the 3 hour Peacekeeper Wars mini-series. We were promised webisodes 5 or 6 years back, but they never happened, and I really didn't think we'd see any more new wormhole adventures.
But an interesting report on Australian media site, if, reveals that a new movie version of Farscape is being worked upon right now. Brian Henson is set to direct, from a script written by one of the original Farscape screenwriters, Justin Monjo. From the brief description it looks like it will be a continuation of the series too...
In the finale, the protagonists, American astronaut John Crichton and peacekeeper Aeryn Sun got married and had a baby. In the movie, it’s revealed the boy had special powers which made him the target of the villainous aliens so his parents hide him on Earth.I would guess that although D'Argo's spent 19 years growing up on Earth, time has moved much slower wherever Crichton and Son have been. It sounds good, and I like the idea of their son being an adult, it clearly helps with casting a strong central character, and they can avoid having one of those annoying genius brats! There are a lot of things I'd tolerate for new Farscape but I'd rather that wasn't one of them.
The plot follows the kid at the age of 19 when his whereabouts have been discovered and he rejoins his parents on their spaceship.
Monjo says the film would be shot in Australia, I think we can assume if Brian Henson's involved then we will see puppetry too. I'm only speculating but I would imagine it's likely to be a TV movie, and by the sound of the plot, they are hoping it acts as a pilot for a new series. If that is true, then I will be a very happy man.
