Let's Take A Closer Look At The New STAR WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

Unless you've been living under a rock on Tatooine (or Jaku!) then you'll likely know there is a new teaser trailer for a little movie known as Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Have you seen it? It's glorious...

So let's take a closer look at what we saw there.

Way to make you sit up and pay attention!

That looks like a landspeeder in the distance, passing by an X-Wing which has crashed into a desert planet (as JJ Abrams confirmed, it's not Tatooine it's Jaku (or Jacou, or Jakoo, or something like that)). But hang on! Camera keeps panning and there's a Star Destroyer, equally grounded. You have to think the two of them are linked, and it seems kind of likely that the clip shown in the first trailer featuring John Boyega popping his head up fits into this scene somewhere.

Then there's this...

...It's Charcoal Vader! The helmet has seen better days, that's for sure. The question is did Luke rescue it from the funeral pyre on Endor? Or was it one of the Ewoks? Or possibly someone completely different.

And whilst all this is going on there's a Skywalker sounding voiceover, paraphrasing Luke's lines from Return of the Jedi...
"The force is strong in my family. My father has it, I have it, my sister has it."

R2-D2, good to see you my old friend. And what's that? A mechanical hand reaching out to pet the little droid. Hmm, could this case of heavy petting (sorry, couldn't resist) actually be a little misdirection?

Maybe that voice we hear is not Luke but one of his offspring. And as the voiceover refers to his "father" in present tense I'm going to go for son of Luke (Domhnall Gleeson perhaps?).

Go back and listen carefully to the voiceover and you can here a second voice repeating the lines. A dark, creepy voice. Interesting.

Then, if the misdirection turns out to be true, then we have who I think may well be daughter of Luke (Daisy Ridley perhaps?) accepting a lightsaber...

By the looks of it that lightsaber is the replacement constructed by Anakin Skywalker after he lost his first one on Geonosis. This was also the lightsaber given to Luke by Obi-Wan in Star Wars: Episode IV, and the one Luke lost when his hand was sliced off by Vader in Cloud City.

Next up we have a little X-wing action, and Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron, immediately followed by a quick flash of Kylo Ren. Then it's Daisy Ridley’s Rey, John Boyega’s Finn (minus the Stormtrooper outfit) and their plucky droid BB-8 getting the hell away from at least one Tie Fighter, which is making things go bang!...

Kylo Ren again, with his cross-guard lightsaber rotated 90 degrees and seemingly using the force...

A nice Stormtrooper shot follows, with them all turning to camera in unison...

...couldn't help but think of the companies in Japan who make their employees do a dance before work in the morning. Possibly these guys were about to start doing the Macarena?

Another shot of Daisy Ridley's character Rey, followed by some Tie Fighters attacking what looks to be an Imperial Base...

John Boyega takes off the Stormtrooper helmet again...

...and then we're off to another Star Destroyer (or is that the same one which has crashed at the beginning of the trailer?), for a glimpse of the character who is allegedly played by Game of Thrones Brienne of Tarth, Gwendoline Christie...

Our trio of heroes; Rey, Finn and BB-8 are all shown once again, before we see a dogfight featuring the Millennium Falcon flying into a freaking massive crashed space vessel...

And we finish with the money shot. "Chewie, we're home"...

And as I honestly don't think that was Luke or Leia in the opening, Harrison Ford's Han Solo is the first of the returning human characters we have seen. Certainly the first to face camera, that's for sure.

So what did you think? Great trailer? Got you even hungrier for The Force Awakens? Let us know in the comments below.
