You may want to bookmark this page and check back often as we'll keep updating it with all the new Doctor Who series 10 news as and when we get it, right up to when the first episode debuts.

Be warned that there are potential SPOILERS throughout!

So without further ado, let's get on with it.

Doctor Who Series 10

Steven Moffat returns as Executive Producer/Showrunner for one last series before stepping down to make way for Chris Chibnall.

Moffat also revealed that series ten will follow the same format as the last two seasons.
"I’m making a full series of 12 episodes, plus a Christmas special."
Filming
The BBC confirmed that filming for Series Ten will begin on Monday June 20th 2016.

Filming is expected to run through to the end of March 2017.

Broadcast Date
Don't hold your breath! Series 10 will not begin until the Spring of 2017. There will be a Christmas special, but that, and the new spin-off Class, is all the Doctor Who you'll be getting in 2016.

Don't blame Steven Moffat for this scheduling though.
"I don’t know when it goes out. That’s up to someone else. And even if I did know – which I genuinely don’t – I wouldn’t be allowed to say so as I have absolutely no say in it whatsoever."
Explaining the decision to hold series 10 until next year, BBC1 controller Charlotte Moore said:
“I have decided to schedule Steven’s big finale series in Spring 2017 to bring the nation together for what will be a huge event on the channel. 2016 is spoilt with national moments including the Euros and Olympics and I want to hold something big back for 2017 - I promise it will be worth the wait!”
The same announcement confirmed the 2016 Christmas special and the 12 episode series 10 for 2017.

On February 5th 2016 Moffat confirmed...
"Ahead of me this year I have 14 Doctor Who's and 3 Sherlock films."
So we can take it that he's referring to the 2016 Christmas Special, the 12 episode series ten and the 2017 Christmas special.

UPDATE: Peter Capaldi confirmed, during an interview on Radio 2, that Series Ten of Doctor Who will begin April 15th 2017.

Principal Cast
Peter Capaldi returns for his third and final series as the Doctor.

He'd long hinted that it may be his last, and that would be in line the three series stretch that most of the actors who have played the Doctor have followed.
"This could be my final year – it's terrifying. I love Doctor Who but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things. There will come a time when this is over... But I knew that when I started. I was thinking about my regeneration scene from the outset. That's my terrible melancholic nature. When you accept the job you know there'll come a day, inevitably, when you'll be saying goodbye."
After the announcement of Steven Moffat's departure there was more speculation than ever before that Capaldi would also depart at the same time, and the new showrunner will introduce a new Doctor. It was Capaldi himself who confirmed his departure on January 30th 2017...
"I feel it’s time to move on.

"I feel sad, I love Doctor Who, it is a fantastic programme to work on. I can't praise the people I work with more highly, but I have always been someone that did a lot of different things."
The Twelfth Doctor will be joined by a new companion called Bill, played by Pearl Mackie.

Bill will not appear in the 2016 Christmas special, we will have to wait until the first episode of series 10 to meet her.

UPDATE 14/06/16 - Matt Lucas will also be joining series 10 as a regular cast member. Lucas will be playing Nardole, his same character from the 2015 Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song, and will return from the 2016 Christmas special.

UPDATE 30/05/16 - Michelle Gomez has confirmed that she will return as Missy in Series Ten.

Writers
Steven Moffat will write...
“Four [episodes], and whatever else I have to do, as ever. I’m just getting down to the first episode. I’ll probably write the final three episodes, too.”
UPDATE 14/06/16 - Frank Cottrell-Boyce, who wrote the series eight story In The Forest Of The Night, will be writing the second episode of series ten.

Steven Moffat has asked Mark Gatiss for a sequel to the series nine high-point (a-hem) Sleep No More. Whether that appears in series ten or whether Moffat comes to his senses remains to be seen!

In an interview with Doctor Who Magazine, Face The Raven scribe Sarah Dollard said,
“If I was asked to return to Doctor Who, I would instinctively say yes.”
UPDATE 14/06/16 - And indeed she did say yes, as both Sarah Dollard (writer of acclaimed episode Face The Raven) and Mike Bartlett (multi-award-winning Doctor Foster) are confirmed to be the writers responsible for the two episodes which will be filmed in Block 2. This does not necessarily mean it will be episodes three and four, as the series is often shot out of order.

Tony Whithouse, Jamie Mathieson and Rona Monroe will also be contributing scripts for series 10. With Moffat's multiple stories that's probably a full roster of writers, but Neil Gaiman is still saying that he wants to write another Doctor Who script whilst Capaldi is the Doctor.
"I am determined to write for Peter Capaldi. As long as Peter is Doctor Who, I will write for him."
UPDATE: You missed your chance Neil, sorry!

Directors
Peter Jackson has long been been linked with directing an episode or two of Doctor Who. He's a long term fan and is genuinely interested in doing it, as Steven Moffat has said...
"I’ve spoken to him face to face, and he would like to do one. He accepts that there’s no money and that there’s no time, and it would have to be when he’s available."
Maybe, just maybe, he's now available, as on November 30th 2015 Jackson uploaded this video...

This was an interesting weekend...

Could it be, perhaps, that Jackson will be helming either the 2017 Christmas special which will feature Capaldi's regeneration? Time will tell. It always does.

Lawrence Gough will be directing Block One of series ten. This will include episodes one and two.

Ed Bazalgette, Bill Anderson, Charles Palmer, and Daniel Nettheim are also confirmed as directors for series ten. Wayne Yip will be the one joining them for Block Six.

Once again, Rachel Talalay will return for the Series Ten finale, helming Block Seven which will consist of episodes eleven and twelve.

Trailers
