So without further ado, let's get on with it.

Doctor Who Series 10

Steven Moffat returns as Executive Producer/Showrunner for one last series before stepping down to make way for Chris Chibnall.

Moffat also revealed that series ten will follow the same format as the last two seasons.
"I’m making a full series of 12 episodes, plus a Christmas special."
Unlike series eight and nine filming will not begin in early January. Speaking to Radio 1 in November 2015 Peter Capaldi said filming begins...
“I think next year… at some point.”
That's helpful Peter, thank you! Fortunately during an interview with Radio Free Skaro, production designer Michael Pickwoad revealed that filming will resume on Doctor Who in May.

UPDATE 8/2/16 - The Radio Times has confirmed that filming for the Christmas Special will start in May.

UPDATE 28/5/16 - In issue #500 of DWM Steven Moffat revealed that filming for Series Ten will begin in July and will consist mainly of one-part stories.

UPDATE 14/6/16 - The BBC confirmed that filming for Series Ten will begin on Monday June 20th 2016.

Broadcast Date
Don't hold your breath! Series 10 will not begin until the Spring of 2017. There will be a 2016 Christmas special, but that, and the new spin-off Class, is all the Doctor Who you'll be getting this year.

Don't blame Steven Moffat for this scheduling though.
"I don’t know when it goes out. That’s up to someone else. And even if I did know – which I genuinely don’t – I wouldn’t be allowed to say so as I have absolutely no say in it whatsoever."
Explaining the decision to hold series 10 until next year, BBC1 controller Charlotte Moore said:
“I have decided to schedule Steven’s big finale series in Spring 2017 to bring the nation together for what will be a huge event on the channel. 2016 is spoilt with national moments including the Euros and Olympics and I want to hold something big back for 2017 - I promise it will be worth the wait!”
The same announcement confirmed this year's Christmas special and the 12 episode series 10 for 2017.

On February 5th 2016 Moffat confirmed...
"Ahead of me this year I have 14 Doctor Who's and 3 Sherlock films."
So we can take it that he's referring to the 2016 Christmas Special, the 12 episode series ten and the 2017 Christmas special.

Principal Cast
Peter Capaldi returns for his third series as the Doctor. He's hinted that it may be his last, and that would be in line the three series stretch that most of the actors who have played the Doctor have followed.
"This could be my final year – it's terrifying. I love Doctor Who but it can be quite an insular world and I do want to do other things. There will come a time when this is over... But I knew that when I started. I was thinking about my regeneration scene from the outset. That's my terrible melancholic nature. When you accept the job you know there'll come a day, inevitably, when you'll be saying goodbye."
After the announcement of Steven Moffat's departure there is more speculation than ever before that Capaldi will also depart at the same time, and the new showrunner will introduce a new Doctor. But at this stage it's important to remember that this is only speculation, and Capaldi's comments above could very well just be nothing more than him playing the headline grabbing game which all the Doctor Who team are so very good at.
UPDATE 23/4/16 - The Twelfth Doctor will be joined by a new companion called Bill, played by Pearl Mackie.

It's unclear as yet if Bill will appear in the 2016 Christmas special or we will have to wait until the first episode of series 10 to meet her.

UPDATE 14/06/16 - Matt Lucas will also be joining series 10 as a regular cast member. Lucas will be playing Nardole, his same character from the 2015 Christmas Special, The Husbands of River Song, and will return from the opening episode of the new season.

UPDATE 30/05/16 - Michelle Gomez has confirmed that she will return as Missy in Series Ten.

Steven Moffat will write...
“Four [episodes], and whatever else I have to do, as ever. I’m just getting down to the first episode. I’ll probably write the final three episodes, too.”
UPDATE 14/06/16 - Frank Cottrell-Boyce, who wrote the series eight story In The Forest Of The Night, will be writing the second episode of series ten.
Steven Moffat has asked Mark Gatiss for a sequel to the series nine high-point (a-hem) Sleep No More. Whether that appears in series ten or whether Moffat comes to his senses remains to be seen!

In an interview with Doctor Who Magazine, Face The Raven scribe Sarah Dollard said,
“If I was asked to return to Doctor Who, I would instinctively say yes.”
UPDATE 14/06/16 - And indeed she did say yes, as both Sarah Dollard (writer of acclaimed episode Face The Raven) and Mike Bartlett (multi-award-winning Doctor Foster) are confirmed to be the writers responsible for the two episodes which will be filmed in Block 2. This does not necessarily mean it will be episodes three and four, as the series is often shot out of order.

Neil Gaiman is still saying that he wants to write another Doctor Who script whilst Capaldi is the Doctor.
"I am determined to write for Peter Capaldi. As long as Peter is Doctor Who, I will write for him."
It looks likely, though, that we may have a pair of first time writers contributing to series ten. Steven Moffat said...
"I had meetings today with two writers who’ve never written Doctor Who before. Brilliant, prominent and amazing writers"

If I told you their names, your brain would explode."
Any guesses? Chris Chibnall anyone?

Peter Jackson has long been been linked with directing an episode or two of Doctor Who. He's a long term fan and is genuinely interested in doing it, as Steven Moffat has said...
"I’ve spoken to him face to face, and he would like to do one. He accepts that there’s no money and that there’s no time, and it would have to be when he’s available."
Maybe, just maybe, he's now available, as on November 30th 2015 Jackson uploaded this video...

This was an interesting weekend...

Could it be, perhaps, that Jackson will be helming the 2016 Christmas special? Time will tell. It always does.
