October 23rd
The second episode of The Myth Makers, titled Small Prophet, Quick Return, gets things underway today week in Doctor Who history. It is one of only two episodes of Doctor Who that was broadcast on October 23rd in the show's long history and it premiered on this day in 1965. 8.1 million First Doctor fans were watching it, which is a mightily impressive number really, but not when compared to the 12 million who were tuned in eleven years later for part four of the Fourth Doctor adventure The Hand Of Fear.

During that adventure the Doctor dropped Sarah Jane off back on Earth and we said goodbye to one of the most loved companions the show had ever seen. But, as you can't keep a good woman down...

Spin-Offs
...She came back in the 21st Century for The Sarah Jane Adventures. It's all the fun of the fair today as episode two of The Mad Woman in the Attic was broadcast October 23rd 2009 and watched by 0.84 million viewers.

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs aired, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
