Today In DOCTOR WHO History: December 26th

We said a sad goodbye to Susan today in Doctor Who history...

Welcome to our daily round-up of the Doctor Who episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. You can click on any red text to read our full retrospectives/reviews for that episode, and note that all viewing figures listed are for UK broadcasts (unless otherwise stated).

December 26th
After the madness of Christmas Day we sometimes need to kick back and relax on Boxing Day, taking things a bit quieter. And indeed, so have the Doctor Who production team across the years as to date only one episode of the series has premiered on December 26th. It's from way back in 1964 when the show was just over a year old and the final episode of The Dalek Invasion of Earth, entitled Flashpoint and broadcast at 5:58pm, drew an audience of 12.4 million viewers. All of them had their hankies at the ready to watch the First Doctor bid adieu to his granddaughter as Susan became the first member of the original cast to leave the series.

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs aired, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
