Welcome to our daily round-up of the Doctor Who episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. June 18th
On this day in 1966 4.5 million people tuned in to episode 4 of The Savages, a story that came very near the end of the First Doctor's era.

And then we jump 39 Years and eight regenerations into the future (well, nine with the War Doctor) and it really was the end of an era, as a 'fantastic' 6.91 million tuned in to BBC One at 6:59pm to see the Ninth Doctor say goodbye in The Parting of the Ways. The day was marked with a special look back at the Ninth Doctor and Rose's whirlwind adventures in time and space which preceeded the episode, titled The Ultimate Guide it began at 6:15pm, also on BBC One, and was watched by 2.77 million viewers. Substantially more than tunred over to BBC Three at 7:45pm for The Last Battle, that week's episode of Doctor Who Confidential.
