Today In STAR TREK History: June 10th

Do two DS9s equal DS18?
Welcome to our round-up of the Star Trek episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. All viewing figures quoted are for U.S. premiere broadcast (unless noted).

June 10th
We have a pair of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes receiving their debut airing today in Star Trek history. First up is the penultimate episode from season four (the 97th overall from the series), titled Body Parts it focused on the Ferengi, specifically bartender Quark who believing himself to be terminally ill auctions off his remains. When he turns out to be in perfect health, he must either violate the contract or end his life in order to deliver the merchandise. Directed by Avery Brooks, Body Parts also addressed Nana Visitor's real-life pregnancy, writing it into the story by having the pregnancy of the Keiko O'Brien transferred to Visitor's character, Major Kira Nerys, following an accident.

Sadly. 1996's Body Parts was the lowest rated episode yet in both Season four of Deep Space Nine, and for all of DS9 up to that time. Even sadder, the ratings would drop further in latter seasons, including for our next offering...
The Sound of Her Voice premiered on this day in 1998, receiving Nielsen ratings of 4.1 points, corresponding to about 4.05 million viewers. The penultimate episode from the sixth season of DS9 saw the crew, aboard the starship Defiant, answers a call for help from a stranded Starfleet officer; meanwhile, back at the station, the bartender Quark attempts to distract security chief Odo so that he can conduct a smuggling operation.

Join us again next time for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the movie's released, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Star Trek history.
