Happy birthday Tu you!
Welcome to our round-up of the Star Trek episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. All viewing figures quoted are for U.S. premiere.
June 22nd
Today in 1956 Timothy Darrell Russ was born. You of course know him better as Tim Russ, the actor who prtrayed Lieutenant Commander Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager. But you might not be aware that Tim Russ has made multiple appearances in Star Trek outside of this; first he played Devor in the 1993 Next Generation episode Starship Mine, he then moved to the big screen playing a Liutenent on the Enterprise-B in Star Trek: Generations, a trip to Deep Space Nine followed with his third different Trek role within one calendar year, here he played the Klingon T'Kar in Invasive Procedures. Russ would also guest as Tuvok two years later in Deep Space Nine, at least a mirror-universe version in the 1995 episode Through The Looking Glass.
After Voyager finished, Russ has leant his voice to several Trek video games, including Elite Force and Star Trek Online. He's also appeared in a couple of crowdsourced fan-made in-universe productions, including playing Comander Kovok in Star Trek: Renegades.
And if that wasn't enough, Tim Russ also holds the title of the only Star Trek primary cast member to have appeared on-screen with four different Star Trek series captains. Jonathan Frakes is a close runner-up, as like Russ he appeared in Star Trek Generations with Captain Kirk actor William Shatner, but Frakes did not share any scenes with him. Russ, on the other hand, did.
Happy birthday to you!
