We've known for almost a year that a second season of Broadchurch would be happening, but over the last few months pretty much everyone who starred in the first series has denied knowledge of whether they will be involved or not second time around.
Only the shows creator and writer, Chris Chibnall, know for sure but today Jodie Whittaker, who plays Beth Lattimer, let something slip in an interview with CultBox. She claimed that David Tennant will rejoin Olivia Colman in the second season of acclaimed ITV drama, although she's still uncertain about her own role:
"I know Olivia and David are back," she said. "But [the producers] haven't told us anything. They don't want us to know anything so that we can't spoil it if we are back!"With David Tennant currently filming Gracepoint, the US version of Broadchurch, his involvement had been very much in doubt, so this is good news indeed.
Clearly it's not been confirmed by official sources, but it's a highly unlikely statement for Whittaker to make if it was not true, couple that with the fact that Broadchurch series 2 does not go before the cameras until this summer, straight after Gracepoint wraps up shooting, and I think we can safely say Tennant will be back as DI Alec Hardy.
