Ed Speelers |
A couple of weeks back we learnt that
Adam Driver was being lined up to play the villain in Star Wars Episode VII, but what about the lead Jedi?
Variety are reporting that JJ Abrams has five potential candidates at the top of his list.
 |
Jesse Plemons |
First up is
Jesse Plemons. News broke early in January that the Friday Night Lights and Breaking Bad star had met with producers to discuss a role. Joining him on the short list are Downtown Abbey actor Ed Speelers, Attack The Block's John Boyega and theater actors Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher.

John Boyega |
Personally I'm all for Plemons in the role, which is believed to be that of a Jedi apprentice, but I trust JJ to make the right choice. All the actors in contention are very strong, John Boyega was fantastic in Attack The Block, and I could see Ed Speelers as a young Skywalker (although he'd have to lose the livery!).

Matthew James Thomas |
Originally the script wrtitten by Michael Arndt was said to
focus on Han Solo and Princess Leia’s kids, but after Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan rewrote the screenplay, it's now thought the offspring will be in supporting roles for Episode VII, before taking centre stage in Episode VIII.
 |
Ray Fisher |
Forgive me for stating the obvious, but 2 of the actors are not Caucasian, so could we have Lando's offspring perhaps?
It's still not been confirmed but it's widely believed that both Harrison Ford and Mark
Hamill will return, we're hearing conflicting reports regarding Carrie Fisher's involvement but still hold out hope.
All should be revealed soon as filming is due to begin in the next couple of months.
More Star Wars news as we get it.
