How ballsy is Jack
Bauer, huh? Did you see the end of that episode?! We’ll get to that
in a moment. But first, this hour was a little lackluster for me in
the action department (until the end, at least), but I think that was
intentional. There was a lot of character development on the
villain’s side.
The woman who took out
Derek Yates with one swift stab is named Simone Al-Harazi. Her
mother, Margot, we learn, has a pretty clear vendetta against the
United States and President James Heller. Heller apparently
authorized a drone strike in Yemen that killed her husband.
We also learn Simone
has a brother and a husband. A nice, quaint terrorist family. How
lovely. But, honestly, they are and they seem to be very, very
skilled. Simone cutting her leg and smearing the blood on her face to
get away from Jack was very smart.
I am VERY intrigued by
Margot. As the matriarch of the Al-Harazi family, she’s obviously
calling the shots. She’s very intimidating and seems ruthless. It
wouldn’t surprise me if at some point in this day she sacrifices
her children or one of them turn on her. Even her son-in-law is
getting cold feet. And if those creepy, big brother cameras she has
in her home have audio, then she has a very watchful eye on him.
Moving on, I still just
do not buy CIA Agent Kate Morgan as who they’re selling her as. She
might be the weakest link in this revival for me. She’s gutsy, I’ll
give her that. And she’s smart. Taking Basher to a rival gang to
force him to talk was genius. Especially since he didn’t seem that
afraid of what the CIA could do. I just have a hard time buying her
as a badass, hopefully something will happen that will change my
mind.
During this hour we get
a little more information into what’s happened to Chloe the last
four years. Apparently, her knowledge of where Jack was made her a
target. However, it was her husband, Morris, and son, Prescott, that
paid the price in a “hit and run” accident. I was actually
wondering where Morris was. I kinda thought he was going to show up
later, but I guess not. Anyway, it seems to be messing her just
enough to compromise her “mission” with Jack. C’mon, Chloe, get
it together.
Good lord, Mark is a
douche. Ugh, that guy. I feel at some point during this day he’ll
do something redeeming, but right now I don’t like him. I’m glad
Audrey called him out on his BS. There were a few seeds planted in
this episode that might foreshadow an implosion in the Boudreau
marriage: Mark is controlling and treats Audrey like he’s keeping
her in a box. We also see just how far he’s willing to go to make
sure Audrey NEVER sees or hears Bauer’s name again when he FORGES
President Heller’s signature.
Really!? One of your
drone pilots is being blamed for something he didn’t do and you’re
going to authorize something without the president’s knowledge
using HIS signature? C’mon, bro. You’re better than that!
Finally, the best part
of the hour, the last five minutes. Jack gets double-Adrian Crossed.
Ha! Get it!? Anyway, Cross sabotages Bauers entry into Parliament, so
Jack has to improvise. The moment he stepped away from the security
checkpoint and took that gun, I was like: “Oh man. What’s he
gonna do. He’s got a plan. What is it?” THEN HE SHOT TWO PEOPLE!
(In the leg, I know, but still). The ensuing chaos allows him entry
to the building, oh but wait, top notch agent Kate Morgan is on the
trail!
This was a pretty good
episode. Light on the action, heavy on the plot. I liked it. We have
a clearer understanding of this season’s villain, we have a few
side characters we love to hate, and of course Jack is just awesome
as he always is.
