We've gathered up some Doctor Who news items for you and presented them below in one handy digest.
First up Steven Moffat has been talking about The Day Of The Doctor regeneration scene from John Hurt's War Doctor to Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor. He explained to
Doctor Who Magazine the reason behind not seeing the full transformation:
"It was one thing to include [Christopher Eccleston] among all the
other archive Doctors, as they flew in to save the day - in fact, it
would have been disgraceful to have left anyone out - but placing him in
that scene might have given the impression he'd actually turned up for
filming, which would have been crossing the line. Not taking part in the 50th was a difficult
decision for Chris, taken after a lot of thought and with great
courtesy, and not respecting his wishes would have been grossly
unprofessional and disrespectful to a good man and a great Doctor.
Number nine may not have turned up for the celebrations, but there would
have been no party without him".
Sticking with the War Doctor, a new Doctor Who hardback novel will be released next month that is set during the Time War and before The Day Of The Doctor.
"A new companion! Calculating Time Lords! New Dalek paradigms! It’s a
war story, at its heart, set against the backdrop of great turmoil and
chaos. But it’s also about the Doctor’s personal journey, how he ends up
where he is at the beginning of The Day of the Doctor. He’s been through
the wringer; and in Engines of War, he’s not given any reprieve."
Thanks to Christopher Morley for the heads up. The hardback is released on July 31st,
pre-order here.
Russell T Davies has
addressed criticisms that his era of the show was too 'soapy'. Nonsense, says I! And RTD agrees:
"I absolutely think (it's) are wrong. I can
understand where it is coming from, but it doesn’t mean I like where
it’s coming from. You are looking at a major character in his own show
that’s on for 50 years and you’re denying him a full life. You can’t do
that. Plus, I have to say, what a load of fuss about nonsense! If you
added all the kisses and the love lines I think you’d have about
40-seconds of material! Seriously, think about it. It’s not much, it’s
tiny. And it very rarely changed the direction of a story. You have to
let it move on."
Tom Riley is set to guest star as
Robin Hood in episode 3 of series 8, in fact the episodes already in the can and he's been speaking a little about Doctor Who and working with Peter Capaldi:
"I think Peter’s going to completely
revitalise the show, not that it needed revitalising, but he’s
going to bring something completely different to the Doctor. When you
change a lead actor, everything’s going to change, but you can rest
assured he’s going to absolutely smash it!"

Now, forgive me for getting all 'tabloid' on you (dirty boy!). Matt Smith and Karen Gillan met up for lunch in Los Angeles earlier in the week.
Gillan, especially, is hot property in the US right now - between Oculus, Guardians Of The Galaxy and her pilot show Selfie - so the paparazzi wasted no time in snapping the two together. You can view loads more images of them having lunch together (if that's you're kind of thing?) over at
The Daily Mail.
