LUCIFER #3 Review

Gail Williams is Dreaming.

Norman, Oklahoma. Introducing Medjine Parker, the adopted child of the Parker family. They’re a “good” family. They’re making Madjine miserable, she’s not even allowed to contact her brother who got adopted elsewhere.

In Hell, Lucifer and Gabriel are looking in Dreams for Lilith, though Gabriel wouldn’t mind finding some dream pants as he wonders naked. A black bird greets them and leads them to Lilith and Eve, a weird pairing if ever there was on, also I'm not entirely sure I’d expect to find Eve in Hell, but there again, this is Lucifer’s dreaming. And Lilith has a tale to tell, a tale of Azazel, the sin eater. The man who encouraged sin, and who was trapped by sin. Tempted into sleeping with a young woman who bore him twins. As with all biblical twins these two were light and shade. The quiet one is then killed, his blood forged into a sword given to his brother to kill their father, but in that moment of death the father recognised the son and passed on his true inheritance. So the son becomes the father.

But Azazel isn’t the problem, the sword is, and Lucifer still needs to find it.

But in Sulphur, Oklahoma, the Parker family are sent out to do good. Medjine and one of her brothers, one of her sisters. They don’t get much of a happy greeting under the door is opened by a big friendly woman, one they don’t know but the reader recognises and Teena. Poor, big, homicidal Teena.

Gabriel meanwhile is having a bit of nightmare…

This third installment of Lucifer continues with good pace and some twists that this reader was not expecting (and a few I was). The drawing is in places harsh, but tends to be where the writing and atmosphere require it.

I'm enjoying this series, but it’s not got me to the I-have-to-read-the-next-issue-now! Stage that some other titles have, so for that it gets a goodly four out of five, or maybe the refusal of the final point is just me being evil?

Gail Williams lives in her own private dungeon populated with all the weird and the wonderful she can imagine. Some of it’s very weird, and the odd bits and pieces are a bit wonderful. Well okay, she lives in Swansea with her husband and daughter. And the world’s most demanding cat. To find out more about Gail, check out www.gailbwilliams.co.uk - Dare you!
