Never tell Alden Ehrenreich the odds...
The stand alone Han Solo film, from directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, is currently in pre-production, and although we have no further details on the storyline one sliiiiiiightly important aspect of the movie has been confirmed - Alden Ehrenreich will play the coveted role of young Solo.
Recent screen-tests narrowed down the field of potential actors who were being considered for the part, with Ehrenreich beating the likes of Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor to the role.
Not exactly a household name (which is a good thing, right?), you can see Ehrenreich in Warren Beatty’s upcoming as-yet-untitled “Howard Hughes project”, he also recently appeared in Hail, Caesar! and is currently in production on Cinelou’s The Yellow Birds. Presumably the Han Solo film will be his next feature.
The Han Solo film currently has a scheduled release date of May 25th 2018, although don't bet against Disney moving another Star Wars film on to Christmas once again, and will focus on Solo’s days before he linked up with the rebel alliance.
