Marvel's THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER: Everything We Know So Far UPDATE

It's our continually updating round-up of all the information we have so far about Marvel's The Falcon And The Winter Soldier.

The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, the first television series of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first of a series of upcoming Disney+ Marvel shows, is currently in production. This page is dedicated to everything we know so far. Anything that is fact will be presented in regular type, anything that's rumoured but looking likely will be written in italics. You'll find links throughout to original/external news stories and articles containing further information, where available.

You may want to bookmark this page and check back often as we'll keep updating it with all the new information for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier as and when we get it, right up to when the series premieres.

Be warned there could be potential SPOILERS throughout,
although Marvel are pretty good at keeping a lid on these things.

So without further ado, let's get on with it.

Release Date
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is expected to premiere in the Fall of 2020 (more specifically, thought to be late August 2020) on the new Disney+ streaming service. It is also expected to consist of 6 episodes, released weekly.

Cast
  • Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon
  • Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
  • Daniel Brühl as Helmut Zemo
  • Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter
UPDATE: August 24th 2019 - At Disney's D23 Expo it was revealed that Wyatt Russell has been cast as John Walker, otherwise known as U.S. Agent (who in the comics was part of the West Coast Avengers). Wyatt will also play this role in WandaVision (which is set to premiere in 2021).

Writers
Malcolm Spellman, who is also an executive producer on the series, is head writer and will pen at least one episode, thought to be the first. Derek Kolstad, who recently wrote John Wick 3, is also onboard as a writer for the series.

Director
Kari Skogland, whose previous credits include The Handmaid's Tale, is behind the camera for all six episodes.

Filming
Principal photography will begin in October 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Positioning In The Wider MCU
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. As you can see from the logo at the top of the page, Captain America's shield features predominantly, presumably the ramifications of Cap passing this on to Sam will be explored.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is the first television series of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and will be released in between the Black Widow and Eternals movies.

Synopsis
The synopsis is unknown at this point.

Plot
Although very little is known at this stage, Sebastian Stan has given a couple of brief interviews about the upcoming series.
I think it’s time for Bucky to go out there and have an identity outside of the circumstances that we’ve met him through. So, I don’t know, he might do all kinds of things. He might even go on a date. I don’t know. Scary world out there, you know? Apps, things like that. I don’t know what he’s gonna do. I can’t see him on an iPhone…

I think it’s gonna be a lot of dealing with Anthony’s character.
That last line is perhaps key. Could there be an initial bit of jealousy over the fact that Cap gave Sam the shield and not Bucky? With the two of them burying their difference to battle against Captain America: Civil War star Daniel Bruhl who is returning to play Zemo?

Zemo was, of course, the criminal mastermind who drove a wedge between Captain America and Iron Man, and it's been confirmed that unlike Civil War he’ll finally be sporting the character’s iconic purple mask from the comics.

That's everything we know at this stage, but as we hear of any news surrounding the upcoming The Falcon And The Winter Soldier TV series we will update this page, so check back soon.
