The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series for the upcoming Disney+ streaming service, is currently in production. This page is dedicated to everything we know so far. Anything that is fact will be presented in regular type, anything that's rumoured but looking likely will be written in italics. You'll find links throughout to original/external news stories and articles containing further information, where available.
Be warned there could be potential SPOILERS throughout.
So without further ado, let's get on with it.
Background Development
In November 2017, Walt Disney Company chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced that Disney and Lucasfilm were developing a new live-action Star Wars television series for Disney's then-unnamed upcoming streaming service. In February of the following year, Iger went on to reveal that multiple Star Wars live-action series were actually in development by Disney saying,
We are developing not just one, but a few Star Wars series specifically for the Disney direct-to-consumer app. We've mentioned that and we are close to being able to reveal at least one of the entities that is developing that for us. Because the deal isn't completely closed, we can't be specific about that. I think you'll find the level of talent ... on the television front will be rather significant as well.On March 8th 2018, it was announced that the forthcoming series would be written and executive produced by Jon Favreau, and by May of that year Favreau stated that half of the scripts for the first season had been completed.
On August 5th 2018 it was reported that the series had been budgeted around $100 million for 10 episodes. (Now thought to be closer to $120 million).
On October 3rd 2018, Favreau announced that the series had been titled The Mandalorian and the show's central premise was revealed.
On August 21st 2019 , in an interview with Jon Favreau, the producer discussed the look of the upcoming series...
I’m trying to evoke the aesthetics of not just the original trilogy [and] not just the first film, but the first act of the first film. What was it like on Tatooine? What was going on in that cantina? That has fascinated me since I was a child, and I love the idea of the darker, freakier side of Star Wars, the Mad Max aspect of Star Wars.
Producers
Alongside Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni (best known for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the Star Wars Resistance animated series), Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson are all acting as a co-executive producers. The series is produced by Lucasfilm and Favreau, under his production company banner Fairview Entertainment.
Filming
Principal photography for the series reportedly began during the first week of October 2018 in Southern California.
On October 19th 2018 George Lucas visited the set of the series as a birthday surprise for Favreau (It was later revealed that Lucas had some level of involvement in creating the show.)
Filming for the series wrapped on February 27th 2019.

Dave Filoni is directing the first episode of The Madalorian, with additional directors including Taika Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, and Deborah Chow.

UPDATE: Sept 5th 2019: In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Gina Carana discusses her character, Cara Dune...
She’s gone from planet to planet. She’s a loner. She’s strong. She runs into the Mandalorian on one of these planets that she’s hiding out on and thinks that he’s there to take her in and then their relationship escalates from there.
Premise
The series takes place a few years after the fall of the Empire (as seen in Return of the Jedi) and before the emergence of the First Order (from the sequel trilogy). The Mandalorian follows "a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic".
UPDATE: Sept 5th 2019 - A new interview with Favreau and Dave Filoni in Entertainment Weekly seems to suggest The Mandalorian might offer some insight into the origins of the First Order...
“This doesn’t turn into a good guy universe because you blew up two Death Stars,” Mandalorian director Dave Filoni quipped. “You get that the Rebels won and they’re trying to establish a Republic, but there’s no way that could have set in for everybody all at once. You have in a Western where you’re out on the frontier and there might be Washington and they might have some marshals, but sometimes good luck finding one.”
“Also, what could happen in the 30 years between celebrating the defeat of the Empire and then the First Order?” teased showrunner Jon Favreau. “You come in on Episode VII, [the First Order are] not just starting out. They’re pretty far along.”
Trailers
UPDATE: August 24 2019: At The Walt Disney Company‘s D23 Expo 2019 the first official trailer for The Mandalorian was released. It is above, and came with the synopsis below.
After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. “The Mandalorian” is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.
PREVIOUSLY: The first teaser trailer for The Mandalorian was shown in April 2019 at the Star Wars Celebration. It has not been made available to the public as yet, although several recordings appeared on, and were subsequently pulled from, youTube.
The teaser opened with Pascal as the eponymous bounty hunter seated with Carl Weathers in a murky cantina, filled with more than a dozen alien species, many of which are new to the Star Wars canon. The pair were negotiating a job. On the street outside, vendors were roasting Kowakian monkey-lizards, a creature that previously appeared in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi as Jabba the Hutt’s pet Salacious B. Crumb. The teaser concluded inside an office at the end of a dimly-lit alley. Inside was Werner Herzog, wearing the mantle of an Imperial administrator, guarded by four filthy stormtroopers. The group were in hiding following the fall of the Empire. There, Pascal and Weathers brokered a deal to return an anonymous 50-year-old subject to Herzog. In return, Herzog offered the Mandalorian billets of beskar, a special form of indestructible iron used to make his iconic armor.
UPDATE: Sept 3rd 2019 - Entertainment Weekly have release an new image for The Mandalorian which is below. It finds Pedro Pascal‘s bounty hunter taking on two reptilian Trandoshans.
