Today In DOCTOR WHO History: July 27th

Prom time!

July 27th
Although no new episodes of Doctor Who received their debut broadcast on July 27th, it's time to put on your best suit and tie for a couple of hours of culture, courtesy of BBC Radio 3.

Although it wouldn't recieve its television premiere until January 1st 2009, the first ever Doctor Who Prom was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, July 27th 2008 at 11am until 1pm.

The family concert performance featured much of Murray Gold's music from Doctor Who series, and included a specially filmed scene, written by Russell T Davies and starring David Tennant. There was also a selection of classical favourites with a strong flavour of time and space, like Holst's The Planets and Wagner's Ride Of The Valkyrie. The most recent, at the time, Doctor Who companion Freema Agyeman, aka Martha Jones, was joined by Catherine Tate, aka Donna Noble, to present the intergalactic musical adventure, with a little help from Daleks, Cybermen and other aliens from the series.

Here's a little look behind the scenes for you...

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
