September 10th
Welcome to our round-up of the Doctor Who episodes that received their debut broadcast on September 10th, and we have quite a few things for you. Starting as ever with the actual episodes broadcast, there are three of them with the first one arriving back in 1966. Episode 1 of the pure historical adventure The Smugglers was watched by 4.3 million First Doctor fans - or as they called him back then, simply, Doctor. Unaware that a 'rejuvenation' was looming.
Then it's time for the Jelly Baby loving Doctor and 7.1 million of Britain's finest Saturday tea-time viewers to face part 2 of Horror of Fang Rock, broadcast on this day in 1977. And finally in 2011 we join the Eleventh Doctor, Amy and Rory, along with 7.6 million viewers, for The Girl Who Waited.
Related Programming
Over on the radio, back in 1993 the third part of the Third Doctor adventure The Paradise Of Death was broadcast on BBC Radio 5.
Back in 2010, when BBC Three was an actual channel on the tele-box and
everything like that, the Doctor Who Prom received its premiere at
7:01pm. You know, I've never understood why the BBC pulled Three from
the TV and made it an online only channel as surely there was an
audience for it? Right? Oh, you're saying only 310,000 people tuned in
to that broadcast. Oh! That probably explains it then.
Also on this day, the Doctor Who Confidential team went behind the scenes of The Girl Who Waited with an episode entitled What Dreams May Come. Premiering at 8pm on BBC Three that Saturday September 10th 2011.
Spin-Offs
It's back to the radio again for what may be described as Torchwood Season 2.5. Lost Souls premiered on Radio 4 in 2008 at 2:15pm, and saw the
Torchwood team heading to Geneva where they are reunited with Martha Jones who is working as a doctor for a UNIT task force at Cern.
Cinema
Finally for this day in Docctor Who history, were you one of the lucky
people who managed to get tickets to the Doctor Who Series 9 Launch in
Cardiff? We were there! Oh yes, we were there on this day back in 2015
along with a cinema room full of lucky people who were treated to The Magician's Apprentice and The Witch's Familiar before anyone else. Here's our review of the event to prove it!
Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes
broadcast, the spin-offs, the special events, the birthday's celebrated
and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who
history.
