September 9th
We're gonna flip things around for today's look back into the Doctor Who archives and start with the spin-offs. Because on September 9th 2011 saw what is currently the final television episode of Torchwood receive its premiere. That is if you were in the USA as the whole season of Miracle Day debuted first on the premium cable channel Starz, episode 10, which was titled The Blood Line, was no exception. Sadly only 0.95 million viewers saw Captain Jack's blood injected into some big vagina-type thing that ran through the middle of the Earth, or something like that? And then Jack and Rex got to live immortal-ever-after in a small cottage in Devon, or something like that? Perhaps it was the overly stretched out plot that contributed to the lack of viewers as, even though Miracle Day performed better in the UK, the ratings weren't high enough to get Torchwood another series. Although it lives on in both comic book form and Big Finish audios

Perhaps, one day, Torchwood may come back to our screens.

Episodes Broadcast
September 9th also sees two Doctor Who episodes from the classic era receive their premiere. Episode 2 of The Tomb of the Cybermen was broadcast on this day in 1967, and watched by 6.4 million viewers. Two regenerations later and it's another part 2, this time for The Ribos Operation, which drew an audience of 8.1 million for it's debut outing in 1978.

Birthdays
Born September 9th 1953, between 1981 and 1984 the Australian actress Janet Fielding played the part of Tegan Jovanka, companion to both the Fourth and Fifth Doctors. Fielding also made a guest appearance on Jim'll Fix It in a Doctor Who-related sketch alongside Colin Baker's Doctor in 1985 (A Fix with Sontarans), and got to perform alongside the Seventh Doctor, in a sense, when she played the character of Mel during Sylvester McCoy's audition for the part of the Doctor.

Happy birthday to you.

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
