Today In STAR TREK History: August 27th

Moist.
Welcome to our round-up of the Star Trek episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. All viewing figures quoted are for U.S. premiere broadcast (unless noted).

August 27th
On this day in 2020, the fourth episode from the first season of Star Trek: Lower Decks was released. Titled Moist Vessel, the episode sees The Cerritos join a joint mission with the USS Merced to tow a disabled generation ship carrying terraforming material that converts inert matter to organic matter. During the mission, the terraforming material cripples the Merced and begins terraforming the Cerritos. Chaos ensues.

Moist Vessel includes former child star Haley Joel Osment among its guest cast. The Sixth Sense actor voices Lieutenant jg O'Connor who goes through a rather painful spiritual ascension in the episode. Whilst visibly burning, O'Connor states that he can "see everything", "time has no meaning" and that the entire universe is balanced on the back of a giant koala. His last words were "The Secret of Life is..." before vanishing as an energy being.

And now we'll never know.

Join us again next time for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the movie's released, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Star Trek history.
