Today In STAR TREK History: September 7th

"Prepare to surrender your cargo or be destroyed."
Welcome to our round-up of the Star Trek episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. All viewing figures quoted are for U.S. premiere broadcast (unless noted).

September 7th
Season 2 of Star Trek: The Animated Series began on this day in 1974 with the episode The Pirates of Orion. It was a welcome return for the Orions, the fictional extraterrestrial humanoid species who had made their first appearance in the initial pilot for Star Trek: The Original Series, The Cage, and the first time male Orions had ever featured in the franchise. The episode itself saw Mr Spock contract a fatal illness, choriocytosis to be exact, and wouldn't you know it the only cure is to be found with dangerous Orion pirates.

Join us again next time for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the movie's released, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Star Trek history.
