Here's a little something that's put a big smile on my face.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dredd, it wasn't perfect but it was a very enjoyable action movie that showed a lot of promise as the start of a big screen franchise. As far as I'm concerned Karl Urban did the business as Dredd, I can't think of anyone who would've done better in the role.
Unfortunately Dredd bombed on release. When I saw it in the cinema there was only about 6 other people in there, that was just a couple of days after it came out too. After that, I then spent weeks calling everyone "Rookie" in a deep gruff Urban-ish voice. I resurrected the phrase, much to the annoyance of my family and friends, when I, along with a hell of a lot of other people, purchased the Blu-ray.
Dredd has been a massive success on DVD/Blu-ray, it has become a bit of a cult classic, and it's those home video sales that are behind this glimmer of hope.
Whilst at the Destination Star Trek convention in Frankfurt, Germany, Karl Urban confirmed there have been "conversations" with writer Alex Garland and studio Lionsgate about a sequel to Dredd.
Whether this means that Lionsgate are after a direct to DVD sequel or not I don't know, but I'd think that's probably the most likely option. I have no problem with that, any Dredd is better than no Dredd.
Are you excited for another round of Judgement time?
