With a new super sized R rated version of Anchorman 2 playing in US cinemas and a triple cut of the movie arriving on DVD/Blu-ray in April, I was hoping for possible news that the movie had performed well enough for Paramount to green light a third installment of nonsense from the Channel 4 News Team. It was a 9 year gap between the first two movies, please don't make me wait so long for the next.
But as it turns out, even if Paramount said "yes" director Adam McKay says a definite "NO!". In an interview with Empire McKay says it's never gonna happen.
“It’s done, I think that’s it. It was great to do it and it was so fun to work with those guys again, but I think that’s it for Ron Burgundy. That’s the last sequel we’re gonna do. There’s nothing more fun to me than new characters and a new world. And now we’re releasing this alt version, we’re totally satisfied. No Anchorman 3.”I know it had some less than great reviews but I really enjoyed Anchorman 2, and I would've liked to see a third and final movie, possibly set in the 90s. Oh well, I'll just have to make do with that R version featuring 763 new jokes!
