A full length DVD-quality version of The Expendables 3 has leaked online, three weeks before it's cinema release. According to Variety the copy has been downloaded over 189,000 times over a 24-hour period, a figure that will likely soar into the millions.
It's thought that this will seriously effect the box office results for the latest installment in The Expendables franchise, primarily because the target demographic for the movie is young males, who are the biggest users of illegal file-sharing services.
A similar a leak happened in 2009, when a rough cut of X-Men Origins: Wolverine appeared online a month before it's release. It was estimated that at least 15 million people downloaded the movie, which represented tens of millions of dollars in lost revenue. Eventually the FBI arrested Bronx resident Gilberto Sanchez for illegally uploading the film, and he was sentenced to a year in prison.
