Presumably this monster is set to appear in episodes 5 and 6 of Series 9, which are currently filming.
But what it is, we don't know.
The slot with the red 'eye' looks like it could be a distant relative of K.I.T.T. from Knight Rider. But that seems highly unlikely. Maybe it's the return of the Krotons, redesigned for the 21st Century? Also, highly unlikely.
So any guesses?

The BBC released a new image today, this time not in the shadows...
...clearly it's not K.I.T.T.! Shame.
