Today In DOCTOR WHO History: April 12th

I got my eye on you mate...

Welcome to our daily round-up of the Doctor Who episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. You can click on any red text to read our full retrospectives/reviews for that episode, and note that all viewing figures listed are for UK broadcasts (unless otherwise stated).

April 12th
It's back to 1969 to begin this week in Doctor Who history, with episode six of the Second Doctor adventure The Space Pirates which was broadcast to an audience of 5.3 million. Six years later and it's another part six, this time for the Fourth Doctor - 9.1 million joined him for Genesis of the Daleks.

Then in 2008, 9.04 million people saw Peter Capaldi make his Doctor Who debut, not as the Twelfth Doctor but as Caecilius in The Fires of Pompeii. BBC Three then followed this Tenth Doctor adventure with The Italian Job - not the Michael Caine movie but a punfully titled episode of Doctor Who Confidential which blew the bloody doors of that week's new-Who.

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs aired, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
