The Top Four Jurassic Park Games of All Time

Jurassic World Dominion is set to revive the famous franchise that first came to life in 1990 as Michael Crichton’s brainchild of a novel. Director Steven Spielberg took Crichton’s words and turned them into a Hollywood blockbuster three years later and, thus, a Hollywood movie franchise was born. Now, almost two decades on, the sixth instalment of the Jurassic Park series is set for release. With anticipation building ahead of director Colin Trevorrow’s cinematic offering, it’s time to look at the impact Jurassic Park has had since 1990 when it first emerged on the scene.

Audiences have been treated to five fantastic movies. The original took almost $1 billion at the box office. However, Jurassic World still stands as the top earner of all five movies, with worldwide receipts totalling $1.6 billion. Those are impressive numbers, but the franchise’s success hasn’t been confined to the big screen. Pan out and you’ll see that Jurassic Park-inspired games have struck just as much of a chord with the masses as their cinematic counterparts. To show you what we mean, here are four of the best Jurassic Park games ever made.

Jurassic World Evolution

Even though there was a sequel to this game, Jurassic World Evolution still stands out as one of the franchise’s best. This game was created by Frontier Developments and took inspiration from Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis. The overarching aim is to build the best dinosaur theme park.

The animations are slick and there are plenty of familiar creatures you can house in your park. However, the defining feature of this video game is the breeding program. You’ve got the power to create your own hybrid creatures and form new colonies, something that can take your Jurassic Park far beyond the original.

Jurassic Park: Gold Slot

Moving away from video gaming and into the casino world, Jurassic Park: Gold is one of the best movie-themed slots available online. Scroll through a list of the top UK new slots online and there are plenty of recognisable hits, including Deal or No Deal and Knight Rider. However, of all these latest hits, few can match Jurassic Park: Gold when it comes to all-around entertainment.

Stormcraft Studios and Microgaming filled this game with five reels, 40 pay lines, and jackpots worth 8,000x, as well as a full cast of characters. This means John Hammond et al are not only there, in view, but capable of turning bets into cash prizes.

Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis

We couldn’t talk about Jurassic World Evolution and not discuss the very game that inspired it. Operation Genesis was the first game from the franchise that allowed you to create your own theme park. Previous offerings were all about fighting off dinosaurs and exploring new worlds. However, this game tapped into the Roller Coaster Tycoon craze and have you the power to create a prehistoric world of wonders.

As well as building rides and funding research to create new dinosaurs, you have to keep visitors safe. This is no easy task and it’s one of the main reasons this game was so engaging. Indeed, the element of danger never goes away, so you can’t sit idly by and watch your theme park.

Jurassic World: Aftermath

Yet another game based on Jurassic World, this game made our list because it’s a virtual reality offering. We should give an honourable mention to Jurassic Park Arcade at this point. That game fully embraced the arcade shooter genre and became a huge hit in 2015. However, with technology moving on, we couldn’t give it a place in our top four due to Aftermath.

Available on Oculus Rift, this is a survival game where threats can literally come from any direction. You’ve been dropped onto Isla Nublar and there are Velociraptors everywhere. Your job is to explore the virtual reality world and make your escape without getting caught. Sounds simple, right? Wrong. This is an intense game made even more gripping by the fact you’re literally immersed in a virtual world. For this reason, it’s worthy of a place in our top four Jurassic Park games.

We're sure that in the years to come, this beloved franchise will be rebooted and resurrected to appeal to an even wider audience (if that's even possible!). With that, there will likely be even more games inspired by one of the best movie franchises in history.
