Today In DOCTOR WHO History: August 7th

Never fear, the Foot Doctor's here!

The Seventh Doctor is here to save August Seventh, although he's not quite the Doctor you were possibly expecting. You see, as there have sadly been no new episodes of Doctor Who broadcast on August 7th at any time throughout the show's long history we have something very different for you to enjoy on this day.

Long ago, in a time when Doctor Who was off our screens and fans wondered when these "Wilderness Years" would ever end, the brilliant Bill Baggs was just one of a number of peoiple producing and directing a series of unlicensed spin-off Who-ish direct to video adventures, these included the Colin Baker-led Stranger series and the multi-Doctor Airzone Solution. These were quite serious stories produced by people who genuinely loved the show. Often they were Doctor Who in everything but name.

But then, in 2001 Baggs presented this little sci-fi comedy gem to mark the tenth anniversary of his BBV Productions. Serious in nature it is not! Do You Have A Licence To Save This Planet? spoofs both Doctor Who and the unlicensed nature of BBV's Who-related productions, and stars Sylvester McCoy as The Chiropodist (aka. The Foot Doctor).

When a new evil threatens the universe, Rassilon calls on the greatest Time Lord of all time to intervene, but Zoe and Jamie, the companions of the greatest Time Lord, have got in a spot of trouble, so Rassilon reluctantly calls in The Foot Doctor, a Chrono Duke who travels through time and space in a washing machine.

It's quite mad, but I think you'll enjoy it...

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
