Today In DOCTOR WHO History: April 26th

The Doctor and his friends can't work out why they all suddenly fancy a baked potato...

Welcome to our daily round-up of the Doctor Who episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. You can click on any red text to read our full retrospectives/reviews for that episode, and note that all viewing figures listed are for UK broadcasts (unless otherwise stated).

April 26th
We start today in Doctor Who history back in 1969 with the epic Second Doctor swansong, The War Games. Episode Two was broadcast at 5:14pm that Saturday tea-time, and watched by 6.3 million viewers. From a mop-top to all teeth & curls, and part two of the Fourth Doctor adventure Revenge of the Cybermen which was broadcast on this day in 1975 to an appreciative audience of 8.3 million. Finally for this day, it's a 33 year jump to new-Who and the first part of the Tenth Doctor's encounter with the Sontarans - The Sontaran Stratagem was broadcast in 2008 at 6:19pm on BBC One, and watched by 7.06 million viewers, and was followed by that week's Doctor Who Confidential over on BBC Three. Never missing the opportunity for a good pun, or any kind of pen really, the Confidential team plumped for Send In The Clones as the title of their Sontaran special.

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs aired, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
