Today In DOCTOR WHO History: May 24th

"But Doctor, surely there must be an easier way to get Sky Movies?"
Welcome to our daily round-up of the Doctor Who episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. You can click on any red text to read our full retrospectives/reviews for that episode, and note that all viewing figures listed are for UK broadcasts (unless otherwise stated).

May 24th
Just one proper Doctor Who episode has been broadcast on this day, and it's part six of the Second Doctor's final adventure The War Games. If you were tuned into BBC1 at 5.15pm that Saturday then you would've been joined by 4.2 million others watching the Doctor trying to jerry-rig a cable-TV receiver so he could watch Sky Movies for free. Or something like that.

That was the proper episode, but there was also a minisode. Good as Gold was first broadcast on CBBC (as part of Blue Peter) on 24th May 2012. Written via a competition (Script to Screen) in which junior schools were asked to write a script including the Eleventh Doctor and an enemy of his (in this case The Weeping Angels). The competition was won by the children of Ashdene School and it looks like this...

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs aired, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
