Today In STAR TREK History: June 12th

Frozen in time.
Welcome to our round-up of the Star Trek episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. All viewing figures quoted are for U.S. premiere broadcast (unless noted).

June 12th
Directed by Adam Nimoy (son of Leonard), the penultimate episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation's sixth season received its debut broadcast on June 12th 1993. Titled Timescape it was the 151st episode overall, and saw Captain Picard, Counselor Troi, Chief Engineer La Forge and Lt. Commander Data attemot to save the Enterprise, which they find frozen in an explosion of time, whilst taking weapons fire from an also-frozen Romulan Warbird. 11.6 million viewers were there for the premiere, and the episode would go on to be noted by many as one of the finest from The Next Generation's run, as would our next offering for June 12th, although this time we're off to Deep Space Nine...
The 26th and final episode in the second season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was titled The Jem'Hadar and introduced the titular alien race to the franchise, along with the Vorta, both being two species of the Dominion. Broadcast on this day in 1994, a seemingly innocent camping trip in the Gamma Quadrant, undertaken by Sisko, Jake, Nog, and Quark would turn into a dangerous encounter the ruthless soldiers, and leave the second series on a high, foreshadowing just how the Dominion saga would dominate later seasons.

But that's not all...
One year later the third season of Deep Space Nine was nearing its end. The 25th and penultimate episode originally aired on June 12th 1995, titled Facets the episode explored the Trill species when Jadzia Dax undergoes a ritual that brings her face to face with the past hosts of her symbiont, forcing her to deal with feelings of inferiority as a Dax host herself. Meanwhile, the young Ferengi Nog takes a test as part of his application to Starfleet Academy, much to the dismay of his uncle Quark.

Join us again next time for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the movie's released, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Star Trek history.
