Today In DOCTOR WHO History: June 22nd

What's on the schedules today?

Welcome to our daily round-up of the Doctor Who episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. You can click on any red text to read our full retrospectives/reviews for that episode, and note that all viewing figures listed are for UK broadcasts (unless otherwise stated).

June 22nd
Why is the Fifth Doctor all sad in the rain you may ask? And I shall tell you. He's sad because no Doctor Who episodes have been broadcast on this day in the show's long history. Boo!

Related Programming
However, back in 2004 a contestant on the BBC quiz show Mastermind chose Doctor Who as his specialist subject. So there's always that. Not that's it's currently available to watch on the iPlayer though. Boo again!

But, CCBC viewers had themselves a treat as Totally Doctor Who aired not one, but two episodes on this day. Yay! Back in 2006, episode 11 of the first series had an interview with then-showrunner Russell T Davies. The following year, episode 11 of season 2 had John Barrowman joining RTD to discuss all things Who.

Now, earworm time...

Birthdays
Born on June 22nd 1953, British songwriter, producer and lifelong Doctor Who enthusiast Ian Levine celebrates his birthday today. Among his many contributions to the world of Who, he has unearthed a number of missing episodes, recreated Shada in animated form, was behinds the 1985 charity single Doctor In Distress (and you're welcome we didn't include that as the earworm), and produced the theme tune for the short lived Doctor Who spin-off K-9 & Company. Press play and singalong. You know you want to.

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
