Today In DOCTOR WHO History: April 9th

Gwen? Gwyneth? Timey-wimey business.

Welcome to our daily round-up of the Doctor Who episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. You can click on any red text to read our full retrospectives/reviews for that episode, and note that all viewing figures listed are for UK broadcasts (unless otherwise stated).

April 9th
On this day in 1966 8 million people were watching the second episode of The Celestial Toymaker (titled The Hall of Dolls), which, along with parts one and three, is still sadly missing presumed wiped. And no, that's not Gwen, it's Gwyneth, and it's the third episode of the revived series, 2005's The Unquiet Dead which was watched by 8.86 million when it premiered at 7pm that Saturday evening. Straight afterwards, viewers turning over to BBC Three could catch the still very new Doctor Who Confidential, that week's episode titled TARDIS Tales began at 7:45pm. One year later, a special episode from the Confidential team, titled One Year On, previewed David's Tennant's first full season which would be starting the following week.

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs aired, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
