Today In DOCTOR WHO History: May 5th

Boo!

Welcome to our daily round-up of the Doctor Who episodes which received their premiere broadcast on this day throughout the show's long history, along with anything else of note that may have taken place. You can click on any red text to read our full retrospectives/reviews for that episode, and note that all viewing figures listed are for UK broadcasts (unless otherwise stated).

May 5th
One classic Who episode and one modern Who episode were broadcast on this day. The classic being part five of 1973's Planet of the Daleks, which was watched by 9.7 million viewers. The modern being The Lazarus Experiment, an episode which was watched by 7.19 million.

And in Who related birthdays for today we have Richard E. Grant, who scored an incredibly brief tenure as the Ninth Doctor in the animated adventure Scream Of The Shalka before returning as a different Doctor, Simeon, in The Snowmen, and it's also the day that Delia Derbyshire was born. Responsible for arranging the Doctor Who theme tune and a key-figure of the BBC's Radiophonic Workshop sadly passed away in 2001 but what a legacy she left behind, eh?

Join us again tomorrow for another round-up of the episodes broadcast, the spin-offs aired, the special events, the birthday's celebrated and anything else of note that went down on this day in Doctor Who history.
